“ This year ' s Hackathon was another eyeopening experience that pushed me to think creatively to solve the world ' s problems and to learn how to collaborate with others. The day we first arrived, I was grouped with people I had never met before in my life. We didn ' t know how to communicate with each other, we had gaps in our technical knowledge, and we faced various other obstacles in our Hackathon journey. Yet, at the end of the day, we still managed to come up with an amazing project, one that won not only the 2nd runners up for the ingenuity award, but also the 1st place for the innovation award.
Whats more important than the awards, however, is the lesson we got from the experience. I learned the important skill of being able to work in harmony with others, and the ability to problem-solve and work your way through problems you face. Perhaps the most important takeaway from this competition was that anyone can make a difference in our society, be it a well-educated scientist who has been in the field for decades, or a regular high school student hoping to see a change in the world. Even the smallest ripples can lead to the biggest crashes of waves.”
