Towns with Our

Cullman County , created in 1877 , includes three cities and eight towns , each with their own personality and charm .

Cullman
The orderly layout of Cullman ’ s wide streets and avenues ties back to its founding by Bavarian-born Col . Johann Cullmann . Cullmann came to the United States and settled in Cincinnati , Ohio , in 1866 . In 1873 he contracted with the South-North Railroad to settle 349,000 acres in North Georgia and he began moving German immigrant families to what is now Cullman .
The city pays homage to its heritage as a German settlement and agricultural
Cullman center in annual festivals such as Oktoberfest , the Strawberry Festival and Sweet Potato Festival .
Good Hope
Located along Interstate 65 , Good Hope is one of Cullman County ’ s fastestgrowing communities . In 2021 , the city welcomed new subdivisions and economic development opportunities . The city approved Sunday alcohol sales and the city ’ s first restaurant , bar and distillery , Stash House , opened its doors . Gibbs Garden Center also opened a new facility on a 38-acre piece of property along I-65 . The area is also home to shoreline around Lewis Smith Lake .
Hanceville
Hanceville , home to Wallace State Community College and the Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament Cathedral , was settled in the 1820s and became a town in 1832 . Postmaster P . H . Kinney named the town Hanceville after his father , Hance Kinney , an Irish immigrant and the town ’ s first mayor .
