While the cold weather that accompanies the arrival of fall is a tragic omen for children sensing their summer coming to an end, for the fashionable man it signals the beginning of something exciting. With the autumn chill comes the opportunity to dust off all the sweaters, coats, and jackets that have been lying dormant in your wardrobe and begin utilizing them in your outfits.
The practice of layering various pieces allows men to explore a huge diversity of color and pattern combinations not normally possible during the spring and summer months. One of the most iconic layering styles, featured in the picture above, involves wearing a bold or patterned shirt which is then covered with a more muted, dark or earthtoned outerlayer.

While this is perhaps the most common layering technique, feel free to explore and try out different color and pattern combos. A monochromatic shirt or sweater can provide a solid base for a more adventurous or out-there patterned sweater or bright coat. Additionally, a solid colored sweater or cardigan can be used as an in-between layer for a similar-colored shirt and jacket that might otherwise be too close in appearance.
Layering provides the perfect opportunity to work in a bright or bold contrast piece among the darker colors normally associated with a fall palette. Whatever your style, don't shy away from switching things up and trying out new layered looks. Switching up layered looks is also an amazing way to get a diversity of outfites and styles out of a limited wardrobe. A few button-ups, sweaters and jackets can be combined in tons of ways that will keep you looking fresh throughout the entirety of the fall season!
