Global Day of Jewish Learning Featuring keynote speaker Sara Lippmann
Sunday, November 9 4:00 – 6:00 PM Supported by Jewish Community Federation of Richmond
Global Day of Jewish Learning( GDJL) is an International Day of Study and unity bringing together Jews of all beliefs and backgrounds across the world on the same day. Hundreds of communities, large and small, join together for one day of intercontinental Jewish learning, powered by Limmud. Held annually since 2010, the Global Day of Jewish Learning is inspired by the vision of Rabbi Adin Steinsaltz”
This year’ s study theme is“ 70 Faces of Torah.” The Sages teach that there are seventy faces to the Torah: expressing the truth that there are multiple levels of meaning hidden beneath the surface of the text. Over the ages, various interpretive methodologies have been employed to reveal these deep and profound teachings, ranging from the literal to the mystical.
Our keynote speaker of the day is Sara Lippmann co-editor of the book Smash ing the Tablets: Rad i cal Retellings of the Hebrew Bible. The ethos of Smash ing the Tablets“ seeks to capture the generative energy of the bib li cal text … the Bible’ s openness to interpretation, its wondrous acceptance of incompletion, fragmen ta tion, and inter nal debate, its intertextual relations, its tensions and con tra dic tions.” Join us as we delve into this fascinating topic!
