Judaism and Art Symposium

The Judaism and Art Symposium, presented in collaboration with RTA’ s Art Department, features panelists including Hillel Smith, a contemporary Jewish artist whose work is featured at both the Weinstein JCC and Congregation Beth Ahabah, Mia Laufer, Curator of European Art at the Chrysler Museum of Art, Elie Glyn, Director of Exhibition Design and Production at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, and Erin Cross, RTA’ s art instructor and founder of The Glass Ceiling studio. This conversation will explore the connection and interplay between Judaism and art, both in contemporary times and across the evolving history of artistic expression.

Thinking Jewishly

Thinking Jewishly is a guided discussion group to explore meaningful ideas through a Jewish lens and with a Jewish heart. It is a place for curious and thoughtful Jews to bond together through the richness of our tradition and the vibrancy of our personal engagement. With engaging and sometimes challenging subjects, we will enliven our shared character, invigorate our passion for knowledge and learn from one another. Welcome to a growing community of Jewish thinkers. Thinking Jewishly is curated by Shlomo Skaist and co-chaired with Michelle Shor in partnership with the Jewish Community Federation of Richmond.

The Art of Challah Braiding: Rosh Hashanah Workshop with the Challah Prince
Sunday, September 14 4:30 – 6:30 PM In Partnership with Hadassah Richmond
Join the community at the Weinstein JCC as we welcome Idan Chabasov, the“ Challah Prince,” a famous Challah Instagram influencer for an interactive challah experience. Idan combines breathwork, mindfulness, and meditation as he works the challah dough to create intentional masterpieces of braided, edible art. As we prepare for the Yamimm Noraim( 10 days of awe) take a moment to reflect on the cyclical nature of the Jewish calendar. Come and create a sweet round challah to take home to bake and enjoy, in honor of the upcoming Jewish holiday of Rosh Hashanah.

Salsa in the Sukkah

Join the Weinstein JCC for Salsa in the Sukkah, a celebration of cultural diversity within the transient nature of the Fall harvest festival of Sukkot. Together we will taste a diverse array of chips & salsa and learn to dance salsa with the Salsa Guy!
