Hosted by MWIS on March 25, 2025, the“ Managing Your Back Office” webinar was presented by Whitney White of Whitney White Accounting and Notary Services, who covered the tax and financial risks of poor documentation, how proper record-keeping can save you time and money, strategies to streamline your administrative processes, methods of leveraging technology for efficient back-office management, best practices for organizing project-related paperwork, and how accurate records can help you make data-driven business decisions.
White explained that the tax risk factors of poor documentation could have serious repercussions to a contractor’ s business, including penalties and interest, increased likelihood of audits, difficulty justifying deductions, non-compliance, delayed or incorrect invoicing, and late tax filing.

“ If your information is late or poorly documented, you are subject to penalties and interest as well as an increased risk for audits,” warned White.“ For construction or any other business, you need to file for sales taxes by a certain date, and possibly include additional information, or you will not be compliant.”
Besides the tax risk factors, she outlined a number of financial risk factors, such as:
Financial mismanagement Inaccurate financial statements Difficulty tracking cash flow Misclassifying expenses
