DAWID KOMODZINSKI OF INSSKI CONSTRUCTION within multiple trades. Over time, he expanded his expertise by working across carpentry, plumbing, roofing, and energy efficiency improvements— eventually building a strong enough knowledge base to run his own construction company.“ I didn’ t just study construction— I lived it. Every project taught me something new,” Dawid says.
Starting From Scratch— and Scaling Fast
Transitioning a construction career across continents is no easy feat. When Dawid moved to Los Angeles, one of his first major hurdles was licensure.“ Despite nearly two decades of running a construction company in Ireland, I needed to understand how that translated to the U. S. system,” he says. He quickly realized that his qualifications could support a General B license application— and passed the test on his first attempt. Today, he holds four active California contractor licenses: B( General Building), C-15( Flooring & Floor Covering), C-54( Tile Installation) and as of mid-July 2025, A( Engineering).
Dawid’ s next challenge was breaking into the public sector.“ It took nearly 12 months to land my first government job,” he recalls.“ The toughest part was navigating where to look and how to interpret the mountain of procurement information.” His persistence paid off when INSSKI secured its first public project with the County of Los Angeles Department of Beaches and Harbors: a $ 17,000 monument painting contract.
