Often , thankfully , we get a full calendar of outings and events and need some extra help . Please join us in those , or consider other ways listed here where you can pitch in to support autism needs in our communities .
Volunteering ! Please see the ad for volunteers with autism experience to help guests at one of three performances coming up in Pittsburgh . Share your love of helping and your love of theater with our friends this holiday season ! You ' ll be glad you did .
Giving ! It ' s almost Thanksgiving , a time of year we are grateful for your calls , texts , emails and letters telling us you ' re part of our community and trust us to help solve what we can in terms of problems you may encounter . So , thank you in advance of the holidays , for staying in touch with us and sharing your life journey in so many ways .
Here are some ideas to help you get involved :
Join or start a support group . Check in on efforts your town or city is making for better living with disabilities - in Pittsburgh , you can join Mayor Ed Gainey ' s efforts by sending an email here to learn how . Make a plan to visit your state legislator in January so they can get to know you , your family , and your needs . Here is a link to Senator Bob Casey ' s office - contact them to inform him of your disability needs . And - Get out and VOTE !
Cake ! Thanks to the awesome Rachel M ., our staff and colleagues got a taste of an amazing cake and a visual feast of her decorating skills when she visited our office to drop off this treat this week . Thanks , Rachel , for giving back and sharing your talents with us ! It was very much appreciated .
Join us in appreciation ! Thanks so much to Dr . Daniel Wilkenfeld who has inspired a project leading to the training of Nurse Practitioner students in Family Medicine , Pediatric Primary Care , and Psych Mental Health , taught by Dr . Joe McAllister . This project begins in December with an aim to continue to turn out at least a dozen professionals capable and comfortable conducting autism evaluations in the region , every single year !
