Brady Pelton SBAND Board Member

What is your current position ? I currently serve as General Counsel and Director of Government Affairs with the North Dakota Petroleum Council , a state trade association representing companies involved in all aspects of the oil and gas industry within North Dakota and the Rocky Mountain region .

What is your hometown , college attended , and law school attended ? I grew up on a fourth-generation farm and ranch nestled south of Lake Sakakawea and between Halliday and Killdeer . I attended the University of North Dakota ( UND ) for my undergraduate degrees and the UND School of Law for my law degree .

What professional work did you do before law school ? After completing my undergraduate studies , I served for three years with the North Dakota Association of Oil and Gas Producing Counties where I advocated the interests of western North Dakota ’ s counties , cities , and school districts .

What led you to a career in law ? From an early age , I had a desire to establish a career centered on public service . Helping to promote balanced public policy through government affairs advocacy seemed like a logical fit with that goal .

How long have you been on the SBAND Board ? I was elected to the two-year Young Lawyer Representative position by my peers in the Young Lawyer Section in June 2020 .

What other involvement have you had with SBAND prior to being on the board ? In addition to serving on the SBAND Board of Governors , I am also honored to be a member of the Advisory Council to the Office of Administrative Hearings and SBAND ’ s Energy Law Committee .

What is the last book you read ( good or bad )? The last book I read was Patrick Lencioni ’ s “ The Five Dysfunctions of a Team ,” which was used as a part of the curriculum of the 2019-2020 Leadership ND program I attended .
