ACA KICKED OFF THE SCHOOL YEAR WITH SENIOR BUDDIES Alabama Christian Academy kicks off every school year with a special evening when they pair up K4 or K5 students with a member of the Senior Class. The great reveal is fun to watch as the K4, K5 students and their families wait to hear their names called and who will be their buddy for the year. The seniors visit their buddies class often for reading, snacks and sometimes to just drop off a little gift. MONTGOMERY ACADEMY SPEECH & DEBATE COACH RECOGNIZED BY NATIONAL ASSOCIATION CAREER DAY A HUGE SUCCESS AT BELLINGRATH MIDDLE Bellingrath Middle’s annual Career Day was a success with about 60 presenters on hand to talk to students about the careers available to them. This included representatives from businesses, organizations, universities and the MPS central office. There were performances by Booker T. Washington Magnet High Musical Theatre Department, the Lanier High School Chorale, and the Montgomery Ballet. There were even some animals from the Montgomery Zoo for the students to view, hold, and learn about. The Brewbaker Technology Magnet High Medical Academy was also there to let students know about the program and to demonstrate techniques such as CPR. The BrewTech Engineering Department was also there to show off some of its awardwinning robots. Speech & Debate Coach Jay Rye is being recognized by the National Speech & Debate Association for his exemplary volunteerism to promote speech and debate. Mr. Rye serves on the Deep South (AL) District Committee and goes above and beyond in service to the speech and debate community at large. This spring, Mr. Rye has been tapped to help make difficult decisions about tournament operations for the safety and well-being of students. L10 | Fall 2020 www.potentialmagazine.com
