TWO MONTGOMERY ACADEMY STUDENTS NAMED REGIONAL WINNERS IN BRYANT-JORDAN PROGRAM Two Montgomery Academy students were named Regional Winners in the Bryant-Jordan Student-Athlete Scholarship Program. Wilson Butler was named the 3A Region 3 winner of the Bryant-Jordan Achievement Award and William Robertson won the 3A Region 3 Bryant-Jordan Scholar-Athlete Award. The program, named in honor of the late coaches Paul “Bear” Bryant of Alabama and Ralph “Shug” Jordan of Auburn, recognizes 52 regional scholar-athlete winners selected for their excellence in athletics and academics and 52 achievement winners chosen for their ability to overcome major obstacles during their high school careers. LAMP STUDENT WINS NATIONAL MERIT SCHOLARSHIP A LAMP High student, Sun Mee Choi, joined an elite national group when she was named a National Merit Scholarship winner. Choi is one of just 7,600 students nationwide to win a $2,500 scholarship. LAMP had 12 National Merit semifinalists and six finalists. LAMP had the fourth highest total of Merit semifinalists in the state despite having a relatively small number of seniors. THOMAS RUTHERFORD IS CHURCHILL ACADEMY’S CLASS OF 2020 VALEDICTORIAN Thomas has been a Churchill Academy student for 13 years. With a 4.0 GPA and an impressive list of leadership and volunteer activities, Thomas received scholarships from the Marion Military Institute Leadership Scholarship, James A. Mitchell Scholarship, Maxwell Area Military Officers, and Alabama Wing Academic Scholarship. He plans to attend Marion Military Institute and pursue a career in aviation and join the United States Air Force. EASTWOOD SENIOR NAMED FURMAN SCHOLAR Furman University named senior student Preston Hamilton a “Furman Scholar” based on his strong academic potential, leadership, and commitment to extracurricular activities and community service. Should Preston choose to apply to Furman for fall 2021, he is eligible for at least $20,000 per year, $80,000 over four years, in scholarships upon acceptance to Furman University.
