What is your current position ? Partner in the Bismarck law firm of Bormann , Myerchin , Espeseth & Edison , LLP .

BIG MUDDY BAR ASSOCIATION SPONSORS THE BANQUET

The Big Muddy Bar Association sponsored The Banquet in Bismarck on Aug . 6 . Although different this year due to COVID-19 , volunteers worked to prepare , package , and distribute 265 “ To-Go ” meals .
What is your hometown , college attended , and law school attended ? Grand Forks ; University of North Dakota ( UND ) 1990-94 , B . S . in environmental geology & technology with a minor in biology ; and UND School of Law 1994-1997 ( graduated by way of the ’ 97 Flood ).
What professional work did you do before law school ? School , school , and more school .
What led you to a career in law ? It was two-fold – my dad was an attorney and I wanted to pursue a practice in environmental law . Working in Bismarck as a law clerk for the South Central Judicial District Judges after law school and a desire to continue to live in North Dakota had me re-think a career in environmental law .
How long have you been on the SBAND Board ? Since the summer of 2020 .
What other involvement have you had with SBAND prior to being on the board ? I served on the Pattern Jury Instruction Commission from 2006 – 2015 , and on the Judiciary Standard Committee . I am also currently serving on the Joint Committee on Attorney Standards .

What is your favorite quote ? The cynical side of me would say , “ God is great , beer is good and people are crazy .”
The pragmatic side of me would say , anything said by President Teddy Roosevelt and President Abraham Lincoln ’ s quote , “ Discourage litigation . Persuade your neighbors to compromise whenever you can . As a peacemaker , the lawyer has superior opportunity of being a good man . There will still be business enough .”
What is the last book you read ( good or bad )? I am currently reading Senator Bryon Dorgan ’ s “ Take This Job and Ship It . . .” and “ The Rise of Theodore Roosevelt ” by Edmond Morris .
