What fees do law students pay in addition to tuition?
Law students pay several mandatory fees, as do all other UND students, including
UND fees and state fees. The only fee special to law students is the Law Program fee,
which supports the law library, student career development, experiential education, and
equipment and operations. The Law Program fee was authorized in 1994 and increased
once in 2004.

How is UND School of Law’s tuition
rate determined?
The SBHE sets the tuition rates for the
institutions within the North Dakota University
System (NDUS) in accordance with state law.
During the 2017 Legislative Session, the State
Legislature decided not to “cap” law school tuition,
allowing UND to put forward a proposal for an
increase in law school tuition.
What is the tuition increase at UND
School of Law for 2017?
UND President Mark Kennedy proposed a nine
percent increase in law school tuition for the
2017-2018 academic year. It should be noted the
President also proposed a seven percent increase
in graduate tuition and a four percent increase
in undergraduate tuition. In other words, the
President proposed at least a four percent increase
for all UND programs; the higher increase for law
school tuition allows law school tuition to “catch
up” with other UND tuition rates.
The SBHE met and approved the proposed
increases on May 15. The increases that take effect
for the 2017-2018 academic year are as follows:
North Dakota residents: $24.32 more per
credit, or $729.60 more for 30 credits
(one year)–or about $11,894 in annual
tuition and fees
Contiguous states and Canadian provinces
(MN, SD, MT, MB, and SK): $36.48 more
per credit, or $1,094.40 more for 30 credits
(1 year)–or about $16,312 in annual tuition
and fees
Non-residents: $64.93 more per
