SECTION HIGHLIGHT
Business and Corporation Section
The Business and Corporation Section serves the professional needs
of corporate attorneys and those who do business or transactional
work by providing information and CLE programming. “Our section
is particularly interested in following organizational entities and
law changes that affect our members in their practice,” says Chris
Kennelly, section chair.
He notes the Business and Corporation Section is also shifting its
focus to becoming a more active section within SBAND. “Last year
we held our first annual continuing legal education (CLE) seminar,
and we had 50 to 60 attendees,” says Kennelly.
This year, the section will be holding its CLE Seminar on Thursday,
Dec. 7, at the Kelly Inn in Bismarck. The event will be held in
conjunction with the Real Property, Probate and Trust Law (RPPT)
Section’s conference. “The RPPT Section has done a nice job with

CLEs for its members, so it has always been a goal to initiate some
sort of similar program related to our section,” Kennelly notes.
The Business and Corporation Section’s upcoming seminar will
include three presentations focusing on buy and sell agreements,
an update on the North Dakota LOC Law, and an overview of the
North Dakota Securities Law. The seminar is free to members of
the Business and Corporation Section, as well as those attending
the RPPT Section conference. “We encourage people to attend to
continue to make this event successful,” say Kennelly.
He also encourages lawyers to join the Business and Corporation
Section. “There are a lot of active practitioners in this section, and
it allows us to come together as colleagues to jointly learn in our
areas of interest.”
