When students come to school, they
are still working through the stage of
self-centeredness, the notion that the

this stage without negativity and with
a growing concern and understanding?
Being grateful for others’ work is an
important aspect of this process.

being owed to the feeling of being in debt
is critical.

“I have learned silence from the talkative,
tolerance from the intolerant, and kindness
from the unkind; yet, strange, I am ungrateful
to these teachers.”
—Kahlil Gibran

in stone monuments, but what is woven into
the lives of others.”
