FINAL TUNE-UP The Jaguars wrap the preseason with last look at players on the roster bubble By: J.P. Shadrick Wide receiver – This seems to be an annual discussion: How many receivers are the Jaguars keeping (fi ve, six?) and who will they be? Terrelle Pryor Sr., a seventh-year wide receiver out of Ohio State, has history with offensive coordinator John DeFilippo both as a quarterback and as a receiver in the NFL. His only game action this preseason was last week when he hauled in three passes for 26 yards before leaving the game with a hamstring injury. There is no doubting his measurables (6-4, 228) and what he could be for this group, but has Pryor shown enough to stick around? Others to watch: Tyre Brady, an undrafted rookie out of Marshall, has fl ashed on the practice fi eld, but has one catch for eight yards in preseason action. Tre McBride, a fourth-year player out of William and Mary, has a team-best 10 receptions for a team-high 120 yards in the preseason. C.J. Board, a fi rst-year wide receiver out of Tennessee-Chattanooga, has 10 catches for 115 yards this preseason. Linebacker – With the front-line linebackers pretty much solidifi ed – Myles Jack at middle linebacker, Leon Jacobs at strong-side linebacker and rookie Quincy Williams/eighth-year veteran Najee Goode at weak-side linebacker – the front- line players at this position seem to be set. Others to watch: Fifth-year linebackers Ramik Wilson and D.J. Alexander, and undrafted rookies Joe Giles-Harris and Connor Strachan. Running back – Leonard Fournette, Ryquell Armstead and Alfred Blue seem poised to make this roster. But with a position group that takes a lot of contact, injuries are always a concern and depth is necessary. Look for fourth-year running back Thomas Rawls, and second-year running backs Devante Mays and Elijah Hood to try to make the most of their auditions tonight. Offensive line – At least for now, forget the A.J. Cann/Will Richardson Jr. battle for the starting right guard spot – both are making this team. Tonight’s game is the fi nal chance to see who you want on your team for depth, for the ability to play multiple positions and strategize for the seven offensive linemen that will be active on game day. Guard/center Tyler Shatley enters his fi fth NFL season, all with the Jacksonville Jaguars. His history playing both guard and center shows his versatility, and ideally the Jags would like to keep three players who can snap the football (Linder, Cann). Tackle Josh Wells has been with the Jaguars just as long as Shatley but has battled injuries throughout his time in Jacksonville. When healthy, Wells has served well as a back-up option at tackle. With veteran Cedric Ogbuehi on the roster and with Cam Robinson seemingly back at left tackle and Jawaan Taylor likely getting the nod at right tackle, there is more competition here for a swing tackle roster spot than in recent memory. Others to watch: Donnell Greene, an undrafted rookie out of Minnesota, center Bunchy Stallings, an undrafted rookie out of Kentucky and tackle KC McDermott, a fi rst-year player out of Miami who spent 2018 on the Jaguars’ practice squad.
