FINAL TUNE-UP The Jaguars wrap the preseason with last look at players on the roster bubble By: J.P. Shadrick AP IMAGES JACKSONVILLE – Tonight the 2019 NFL Preseason ends, but the fi nal roster decisions are only just beginning. After last week’s game in which the majority of front-line Jaguars players got their only work of the preseason, many fans seem happy with what they saw – still plenty to work on, but a lot to be excited about entering the 2019 season. Tonight’s game is about the depth of the 2019 Jacksonville Jaguars. There is a stark reality that comes after tonight’s game. After this game, NFL rosters must be trimmed from 90 players to 53, meaning 37 players from 32 NFL teams will be cut – 1,184 players total. Many of those players have spent the entire offseason with the team, meaning they have been in spring strength- and-conditioning workouts, organized team activities, mandatory minicamp and now a grueling, hot training camp and preseason. As he explains annually on cut day, Head Coach Doug Marrone has been on both sides of the table – as a coach releasing a player, and as a player getting released. “Every time this week comes up, every year for me it’s hard,” Marrone said at the end of the preseason in 2018. “I’ve been one of those guys that has been cut a bunch of times. I kind of look back on how I felt. I felt like I did everything, busted my butt like a lot of guys on this team did.”
