Although Saddle Brook High School’s girls varsity basketball season ended March 1, the girls found out they achieved their ultimate goal, a league championship, on March 18. The reasons for this bear some explaining.
The issue was that NJIC (North Jersey Interscholastic Conference) was unsure whether to crown the girls team co-champions. The NJIC had to assemble a panel to decide if the Falcons would be considered the co-champions of the NJIC Division 6 alongside Elmwood Park. The rationale here was that Elmwood Park’s league record was 6-1, as they were never forced to shut down, while Saddle Brook’s was 5-1.

After a two-week debate, the panel did eventually rule in favor of the Lady Falcons. The Saddle Brook High School Girls Varsity Basketball team (7-3) would be crowned co-champions alongside Elmwood Park (10-4).
In the past, the team to beat in the league was Elmwood Park, which the Falcons did by five points in overtime in the first meeting. However, Elmwood Park took the second game between the teams. That game would be the last one of the season played for Saddle Brook, as they were shut down due to COVID protocols on March 3.
The NJSIAA capped the maximum number of games for the 2021 winter season to fifteen, and a large majority of teams were unable to reach the number due to COVID shutdowns.
