Impact and Lessons
Looking at the big picture, our union still has many changes to make, as we are still a nation that has work that needs to be done. One of these tasks is rooting out the use of implicit bias.
As students, we need to learn how to be better and more open-minded so that we can become better adults in the future.
We as Saddle Brook High School students can even make a bigger difference than we think. We can begin by honoring and celebrating events such as Black History Month and International Women's History Month.
We can bring attention to the lack of opportunities available to Black Americans and women. Unfair treatment of different races is already a hard obstacle to jump, so fighting gender oppression should not be held lightly.
We have to work to build a country where people are not judged by the color of their skin. Where women should not have to worry when they walk home alone at night, or whether the clothes on their bodies will attract unwanted attention, but receive support for whatever their individual choices are. We can do this simply by supporting people from all walks of life as much as possible.
