REVIEW
FromSoftware has long been hailed as one of the most renowned developers in the gaming industry. Many were introduced to FromSoftware's catalog of brutally hard but rewarding games with the overwhelming success of Elden Ring in 2022. The game sold a monumental 13.4 million copies and won Game of the Year.
Many believe that FromSoftware's rise to fame began with the release of Dark Souls in 2011, a game so revolutionary for its time that it spawned an entire trilogy and the birth of a new genre: the "souls-like." However, many do not realize that Dark Souls wasn't FromSoftware's first Souls game; the series actually started two years earlier.
Demon's Souls, released in 2009 as a PlayStation 3 exclusive, had a troubled production. Originally envisioned by Sony as a competitor to Bethesda's Oblivion, it soon became evident to the developers that this goal was impossible. Development was chaotic, and the game was widely considered a failure within the company. However, this situation provided the groundwork for a true visionary to shine.
