Can DELL TAKE ON NINTENDO with THE ALIENWARE UFO?
On January 7th 2020, Dell unveiled a new gaming experience at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES). - The Alienware Concept UFO
CES is an event that takes place each year where companies gather to show off new consumer technology in fields like robotics, gaming, and much more. It’s a full Windows 10 gaming PC, shrunken down into a form factor very similar to a Nintendo Switch — complete with detachable controllers and a dock to hook it up to a TV or monitor. The first thing you may notice about the Concept UFO is that its appearance is similar to that of the Nintendo Switch. The main similarities between the Nintendo Switch and this device are the kickstand in the back that allows the device to be stood up on a table or other flat surface, the two side controllers that detach from the main piece, and the bridge piece that connects the two detached controllers to form a more traditional looking game controller. This, however, is where the similarities cease. Unlike the Switch’s 6.2-inch screen, the Concept UFO has an 8-inch screen. The Concept UFO also doesn’t require a physical game cartridge in order to play a game.

The Concept UFO is essentially a Windows 10 computer designed specifically for PC gaming on the go. It gathers all of a person’s games from their various launcher libraries (such as Steam, Epic Games Launcher, etc.) and makes them readily available on the device’s custom launcher. On the top and bottom of the Concept UFO are USB-C ports that allow the device to be charged. The Concept UFO can also be connected to an external monitor via USB-C for a bigger display. The Alienware Concept UFO is only a prototype and is not available for purchase. Whether it will be in the future is unclear. Nevertheless, the Concept UFO is an interesting idea and would make a great addition to any gamer’s collection of consoles.
