Where do you find your creativity outside of school, outside of your work?
Outside of artwork, or outside of the building? This year has been very, very busy. But certainly this year, I've done more artwork than ever because I've had to prepare work for remote and in-person classes. So I was making more work at home. When we first locked down last spring, when I wasn't teaching, I had a little bit more time on my hands then because I wasn't traveling back and forth to school. So I was certainly using sketchbooks a lot more. I started to make some sculptures last spring, I never finished them. So yeah, you know, I do stuff in my garden. Designing and planting that's kind of creative. That's nothing really. Very often, things I've made in clay get incorporated into that or, you know, I have sculptures in my yard, that kind of thing that I've made.
Do you have any art mediums that you wish you were better at?
I'd love them to weld. Why do I like sculptures outside? Obviously, there's not a lot of materials that can withstand being outside. But metal would and I'd love to learn how to sculpt out to weld and to make, you know, how to make things with metal. I've made concrete sculptures. Clay holds up pretty well outside. But I'd love to be able to [become] better at making things from metal.
What projects are you looking forward to piloting next year? Are there any new projects You would like to pilot?
I'm looking forward to all the classes being fully in session, so that I can do more in each class. My ceramics class right now is a great example. Typically, in a half year, we've made so many more things, we would've done slab building, we've not been able to do that. And I don't think we'll have time to do it. So I'm looking for more. And it looks like my schedule next year is going to be more ceramics and more sculpting, which are the things I love to do. So I'm looking forward to really putting my energy into that. And also, we're piloting a new freshman course which is going to be a four year course and they're going to take a little taste of everything: Photography, sculpture, drawing, painting, it sounds really fun. Yeah, it's gonna be a full year course. And I'm looking forward to the three dimensional aspect of that. Definitely.
