GIRLS SOCCER SOARS
By Mia Ianneillo
The Season
The Saddle Brook Girls Soccer team began training in late June to get ready for the
start of their official season in August. They participated in a summer league, worked
in the weight room, and trained with one another every day to prepare for the
upcoming season. Eventually, they faced Elmwood Park in their first game on
September 12th, and secured a 4-0 shutout.
The Falcon's goal for the season was to make a name for themselves by winning their
league, which they have been a part of for the past two years. In this league the Lady
Falcons competed with Leonia, Dwight Engelwood, Ridgefield, and others.
The team finished with an overall record of 10-7-2 and a record of 8-2-1 in their NJIC
Liberty Division, which is an improvement from last year's record. The Lady Falcons
secured a spot in both the County and State Tournaments, in which they gathered
223 power points for.
Tournaments
The Lady Falcons entered the Invitational County Tournament in early October and
secured a 3-0 win against Dwight Morrow in the first round. The Lady Falcons then
went on to compete with Park Ridge the next week and were unfortunately defeated
after a hard fight 3-0. In late October, the Falcons secured a spot in the State
Tournament with home-field advantage. They hosted Kinelon in the first round. The
Falcons battled throughout the game but unfortunately fell short 3-1.
