SET HUT!

AN OVERVIEW OF THE FOOTBALL SEASON

BY: BRIANNA SANDSTROM

The Saddle Brook football team had a rebuilding season as they entered a new division. The first year in the NJIC-Meadowlands Division was educational and the team showed growth both offensively and defensively throughout the season. Under the guidance and leadership of head coach, William VanKersen, the football team has had a 1-7 record and the highlight was a great win in their last game. They dominated Manchester Regional to a 32-6 win on this Senior Day. The team had a 24-0 lead by halftime and the Falcons were able to lock in another touchdown to seal the win with 32 points. With successful 2 point conversions after every touchdown, the Falcons were able to rack up extra points throughout the game. The defense held Manchester Regional to only one touchdown and showed grit while stopping a 2 point conversion.

The Falcons strong defense matured throughout the season and we are looking for big things in the following years. Senior Captain, Greg Drelich, led the team offensively with a total of 123 yards this season. The team is young and added 10 freshmen this year.  The work these young players put in this year will pay dividends in future seasons to come. We thank the 9 graduating seniors for their dedication. Greg Drelich, Joel Orozco, AJ Arroyo, Franklin Rodriguez, James Andrade, Nicholas Accetta, Jaiden Lee, Carlos Luis, and Anthony Coiro will all be missed. The Falcons are grateful for the impact that they have made on the Saddle Brook football team. We are all looking forward to seeing how they readjust moving into next fall.
