She wanted to faint to hide her embarrassment. She never forgot the devilish grin of her mother-in-law when her eyes met hers. She felt like she was the laughing stock there. When she looked around, none there could ever help her. This wasn’t her place. She didn’t deserve to stay in this hell. She had awakened from a very long sleep. Ultimately, she realized the difference between fantasy and reality. She couldn’t remember how she made it home to her parents with her eldest child. She poured out her heartaches and pain to her parents; she had made up her mind to end her marriage. The thing that hurt her most was that she had to leave her youngest child with her husband. She couldn’t afford to bring both children when she left him and the place she considered her living hell. She promised that we would come back and get her youngest child. He heart was breaking; finding a way to get her child away from this man was her main goal in life. God is so good that He answered her prayers again. A few days after leaving the place she once feared, she returned with her loved ones and social welfare officials. She sought all of their help in her fight against her husband, her ex-husband—to take her youngest child with her. With God’s grace, she claimed her victory. She was given the full authority to take care of and rear her kids. Being a single mother is better than living with a man who can never appreciate the love she has to offer. Her life in this journey isn't always easy, but having her kids with her means everything. After nine years of “dumping” her, her exhusband finally asked her for her forgiveness. He has his own family now. So what did she do? She readily forgave him. In fact, she had forgiven him even before he dared to ask for forgiveness. To her, the past is past. Life is beautiful, and life has to move on. Every day is a blessing. Everywhere has catastrophes, but behind disasters loom great blessings. The sweet smile on her face shows that she has moved on. Though the heartaches of yesterday are healed, the scars in her heart will always leave a mark in her life. She will always treat those miserable experiences in a positive way —these terrible life experiences molded her to become a better person, a better version of her. Above all, she will always be thankful to the Father Almighty who is always ready to give her a tight hug; He shows her His amazing love even though she knows how much she has failed Him. She believes God has something better for her. One day, she will find the right one, the one who deserves the love she has to give him, the one who will also accept her two kids. Now, dear Reader, you may ask why it seems I know a lot about this woman, especially her feelings. I should know because I am that woman. –O Bio: Roneyln is a mother of two, registered midwife, writes short stories in her native tongue, Ilokano.
