Underdogs
No More
by Heather Thompson
From the “Rocky” franchise series to
modern romantic comedies,
everybody loves an underdog. We
enjoy cheering on individuals who
seem less capable of achieving victory
because their win seems that much
sweeter. However, as actress Lupita
Nyongo once said, there is a certain
appeal to seeing yourself as
inadequate. If you want ultimate
success God’s Way, you’ve got to fall
out of love with being an underdog.

If the idea of doing so feels
arrogant, ask yourself this: “why
do I refer to myself as an
underdog?” Is it because it seems
humble? Actually, there’s a
sneakily dangerous reason why: it
makes losing more comfortable
and puts off the idea of winning
into the future. If you don’t get
what you work for today, you can
always calm down by reminding
yourself through that “underdog”
title that you’re not naturally
supposed to win anyway. This lets
you hold onto the belief that
winning comes later, not in the
present. See how problematic
that can be?
