While Catherine Szeltner never pictured herself hosting a pro-life television program , she hoped that she would contribute to the pro-life cause at some point . “ I specifically recall this one moment as a freshman student at Florida State University . Dr . Alveda King , the niece of Dr . Martin Luther King , Jr ., spoke at an event hosted by the Catholic Student Union . During her presentation , she shared her past abortion experience – how she was deceived into thinking her baby was “ just a clump of cells ” - and how she now works for the advancement of the pro-life movement . I got the chills listening to her speak and had this intuitive thought that one day I ’ d also like to work for the pro-life movement .” She had no idea what that would look like . As college continued , she decided to pursue a career in Advertising and was fascinated by message strategy and effective communication . During her time as a student , she worked part-time at an advertising agency , volunteered at FSU ’ s student-run radio station , and interned at a local television news network . Not sure exactly what her future would look like , she knew she wanted to glorify God through media and communications .
Two weeks before she graduated college , she had all her plans lined up : She was going to work in marketing in Brooklyn , New York . But those perfectlyfine-tuned plans were disrupted when a friend suggested she apply for a job with EWTN in Washington , D . C . The Global Catholic
Network was getting ready to launch EWTN News Nightly . The prospect of working there was a dream . It would be an opportunity to combine her passion for broadcast with her love for her Catholic faith . She graduated on a Saturday , moved home Sunday , and was offered the job on Monday . It was a whirlwind of events , but she was at peace with it all . “ I grew up watching Mother Angelica and my older sister had been on the EWTN series Onward Pilgrims ; EWTN was always in the backdrop of my life . Because I had this great familiarity with the network , getting the job kind of felt like God giving me a nudge and a wink . It ’ s one of those rare moments in life when there is so much clarity and I know with a deep confidence that God wants me here .” Now , Catherine serves as the host for a new program , EWTN Pro-Life Weekly .
