he idea of extracurricular involvement and
children is a personal
decision that parents
will make depending on many
varying circumstances. As Christian parents this decision must
be made in accordance with an
understanding of the primacy of
Christ in the lives of all the family
members.
It is important that this essen-
tial element of faith within the
family is not placed secondary to
a child’s extracurricular involvements. It is an exercise of balance and commitment, but one
that can enhance the lives of
children and greatly encourage a
life of virtue. Many foundational
values including Christian virtue
and a pursuit of excellence are
often the result of involvement
in such activities and of having
a structured schedule. “Train up
a child in the
way he should
go; even when
he is old he will
not depart from
it.”(Proverbs
22:6)
In order for
children

learn and grow
in this area it
important that
before
deciding to commit
to any activity
