Peace During a Divorce
Tug of War Aftermath
By L. Carter
P
erhaps you’ve met the
Roses -- Oliver and Barbara Rose, that is. They
were once very much
in love. They got married and
had a family and lived happily
– for a while. At some point, it’s
not clear when it happened, but
things started to shift to the left.
It started with little insults and
offenses, initially not even intentional. Then all of a sudden the
“little foxes” became too large to
control. Before they even knew
it, the love had dissipated and
the marriage was in shambles.
They lived together for a time
but only because each were too
prideful and stubborn to go their
separate ways. They managed
to stay together “till death do us
part.” Their once happy marriage
ended tragically. Clearly, this is
not what God intended marriage
to be like.
Divorce was once thought of as
such a traumatic event that even
Hollywood took notice with the
making of movies such as War
of the Roses excerpted above,
as well as Kramer vs Kramer.
Unfortunately, today there are
not many movies made with the
focus on the failing marriage, or
the divorce of a couple. Usually,
what you see is the single parent
simply raising the kids as best
they can, often with no mention
of the other parent. It is an indication of not only how quickly a
marriage can dissolve, but the
attitudes we have about divorce.
We have become accustomed to
it.
