Just as God reveals truths about scripture , there are times he reveals truths about people as well — truths we would not know without his prompting or disclosure . A friend recently shared a story with me about her cousin , Tracie , that demonstrates how God uses divine revelation to rescue , restore , and foster spiritual growth .
Tracie ’ s husband had held her hostage at gunpoint inside their home . He allowed her to leave only after she begged him to let her go pick up their three-yearold daughter , Anna , who was at daycare .
“ There ’ s no one else who can pick her up , Don . Please . She ’ ll be so afraid .”
Don finally relented , telling Tracie to come straight home afterwards . She picked up Anna , but instead of going home , she went immediately to the police station . The police made sure she and Anna were safe and then went to the home . A standoff ensued , which resulted in Don severely injuring himself when he attempted suicide .
Leading up to this event , Tracie had discovered that Don was leading a double life . He ’ d had several affairs and was living with another woman who didn ’ t know he was married . Over a ten-year period , Tracie had become more and more isolated from her family . She ’ d been raised in a Christian home and had accepted Christ at a young age , but Don ’ s mental state and betrayals were overwhelming , and she couldn ’ t bear the thought of her family knowing what had happened since she had married and moved away .
Her parents had both passed away , and the physical distance between Tracie and her siblings allowed her to hide her pain from them .
