“ When our first daughter was born , I had 14 teenage boys cut class , forge their parents ’ signatures and show up at the hospital ,” said Reid .
“ I was so happy to have them there , until I learned how they did it ,” he laughs . “ Our family life has always been the church , it ’ s all we ’ ve ever known and we wouldn ’ t have it any other way .”
What makes Sardis Baptist Church special , he said , is its spirit . “ I have asked people ‘ why ? We love the fact that you ’ re here , but why did you choose us ?’” he said . “ They say , ‘ it ’ s the friendly , loving spirit ,’ and that ’ s a reflection of the God we serve .”
With all the programs they do in the church and in the community - including a recent drive-thru Thanksgiving dinner - Reid wants that spirit to shine through .
“ That ’ s really my heart ’ s desire . That we glorify God and we glorify Christ ,” he said . “ We want to let people know they ’ re welcome and they are loved . That ’ s what we really want people to know : even as crazy
