Maura Mclain talks about the meaningful opportunities and mentorships created by The Faison School ’ s Employment Academy

Maura Mclain is the Cafeteria Manager at the University of Richmond ’ s dining hall , which works with The Faison Center to provide meaningful internship opportunities for students at The Faison School ’ s Employment Academy . She has mentored several of them , and hopes the experiences they are having at the dining hall will prepare them for whatever comes next in their life ’ s journey .

We love giving Faison students a place to learn skills that could lead to employment one day . They ’ ve done all sorts of jobs around the dining hall , from cleaning , to packaging products , to washing produce . All our staff have to go through a certification program about following safety guidelines , and that alone is huge if these young adults want to find another job outside of this community partnership later on . We can ’ t wait to see what they do next !

At The Faison Center , our mission is to give children and adults with autism and related challenges the best opportunity to improve their life ’ s journey through evidence-based practice .
We provide world-class services and programs through our unique lifespan model , which offers enriching opportunities from early diagnosis to adulthood . No matter when our services are needed , we are committed to improving the lives of the individuals we serve .
