Maura Mclain talks about the meaningful opportunities and mentorships created by The Faison School’ s Employment Academy
Maura Mclain is the Cafeteria Manager at the University of Richmond’ s dining hall, which works with The Faison Center to provide meaningful internship opportunities for students at The Faison School’ s Employment Academy. She has mentored several of them, and hopes the experiences they are having at the dining hall will prepare them for whatever comes next in their life’ s journey.
“
We love giving Faison students a place to learn skills that could lead to employment one day. They’ ve done all sorts of jobs around the dining hall, from cleaning, to packaging products, to washing produce. All our staff have to go through a certification program about following safety guidelines, and that alone is huge if these young adults want to find another job outside of this community partnership later on. We can’ t wait to see what they do next!

At The Faison Center, our mission is to give children and adults with autism and related challenges the best opportunity to improve their life’ s journey through evidence-based practice.
We provide world-class services and programs through our unique lifespan model, which offers enriching opportunities from early diagnosis to adulthood. No matter when our services are needed, we are committed to improving the lives of the individuals we serve.
