2022 Fair Dedication

We proudly dedicate the 2022 Pontotoc County Free Fair to Mrs . Emmelen Allen . A graduate of Spauling High School , Emmelen Allen married the love of her life , Fred Allen of Ada in 1964 . Fred was in the US Navy , so they lived in several different places including California , Iowa and Florida before settling down in Pickett , OK . Emmelen , is a licensed Radiology Technician , but after moving to Ada , she kept herself and her family busy by baking wedding cakes and making custom drapes . In 1978 , while building her current home , she would order & pickup materials at Collins Lumber . One day everyone was busy while at the lumber yard , so she started writing up her own tickets . After a while the owner saw her doing this and he offered her a job . She worked at Collins Lumber for 11 years .
There is truly nothing Emmelen can ’ t do . She is a mechanic , carpenter , seamstress , baker , homemaker , quilter , furniture refinisher , prop maker for church , and an avid China painter and a wonderful Mother to two outstanding men . James of Ada and Ralph of Belleville , IL . James and Ralph both grew up in 4-H and Ralph was a member of Latta FFA , so the county fair has been a part of the Allen family for many years . Ralph remembers his
mom entering items and working at the fair for many years . Emmelen has been involved in the American Legion Auxiliary where she serves as treasurer and goes monthly to the Sulphur Veteran ’ s Home to host Bingo with the residents . Emmelen joined Extension Homemakers Club , now Oklahoma Home and Community Education Club in the early 80 ’ s becoming actively involved in many of the club projects and events . She has served as fair superintendent in household arts for over 35 years and has been the chairperson for the OHCE Kountry Kitchen . Every year Emmelen can be found at the fair cooking up funnel cakes , fried pies or strawberry newports in the OHCE Kountry Kitchen .
