Title IX
Title IX of the Education Amendments Act of 1972( 20 U. S. C. § 1681) is an all-encompassing federal law that prohibits discrimination based on the gender of students and employees in educational institutions which receive federal financial assistance. Such discrimination includes sexual harassment and sexual violence.
Complaints under Title IX at ODU
Students: If you believe a student has been subjected to( 1) sexual harassment( including sexual assault, sexual violence or other forms of sexual misconduct) by University faculty, staff, or a student; or( 2) any other form of gender discrimination under Title IX, share information about available resources and inform the student about his or her right to file a complaint with the Office of Institutional Equity and Diversity. Employees: Sexual harassment, including sexual assault and violence, is a form of gender discrimination prohibited by Title IX. A University employee who believes s / he has been subjected to discrimination or harassment in the workplace because of gender may file a complaint with the Office of Institutional Equity and Diversity. The entire complaint form can be found at odu. edu / equity / about.
Federal and state laws as well as University policy prohibit retaliation against anyone who files a complaint.

With the exception of University Counseling and Student Health Services staff( as licensed counselors and health care providers), faculty, administration and support staff are required to share reports on related concerns with the Title IX coordinator, ReNeé Dunman, or a designated deputy coordinator. Ms. Dunman is charged with monitoring compliance with these regulations, including complaints of sexual harassment, sexual assault, sexual violence or other forms of sexual misconduct. Questions regarding Title IX, as well as concerns and complaints of non-compliance may be directed to her.
