Dominion University. This folder covers legal matters like FERPA and Title IX. It gives brief descriptions about the resources ODU has
for students who may identify as LGBT, who are having emotional distress, an illness, or any other concern.

FERPA
The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) guarantees students certain rights with
respect to their education records. These rights include:
• The right to inspect and review the student’s
education records within 45 days of the day
the University receives a request for access.
• The right to request the amendment of
academic records that the student believes
are inaccurate or misleading.
Sexual Assault Free Environment, or S.A.F.E.,
provides crisis intervention, advocacy, education,
outreach, and ODU policy and procedure
information related to issues of sexual harassment.

ODU Cares provides a university-wide system of care

an unexpected crisis, and it comprises the Care Team,
Student Outreach & Support and Case Management.

Student Outreach & Support (SOS) provides support to
students who experience administrative, academic,
or personal road blocks. SOS is here to help students
achieve their personal and academic goals.
The Student Outreach & Support will:

academic integrity violations can be resolved via
a voluntary resolution between the student and
faculty member or by a formal hearing.

Case Management
Case Management provides students with a continuum
of care, ongoing support, and success planning for
students that have a crisis or a concern. It is a resource
that acts as a buffer between students and the resources
they need to succeed at ODU.
