Academic Technology Department
The Academic Technology Department( AcTec) supports faculty in the use of educational technologies to create engaging, learner-centered, and accessible online instructional materials. Our team works with faculty across all campuses to strengthen course design and delivery— whether fully online, hybrid, or face-to-face.
Our support focuses on two major areas:
• Course Design— Our Instructional Designer facilitates the Online Course Design and Delivery workshops( OCDD & OCDD +) throughout the year, oversees Master Course development, and provides one-on-one consultations for course design, student interaction strategies, and best practices in teaching and learning.
• Educational Technology— Our team supports faculty with Canvas and other collegewide educational software, including CidiLabs DesignPLUS, Simple Syllabus, Kaltura, Turnitin, Harmonize, and more. We offer Canvas Instructor Training( CIT), Advanced Canvas workshops, various accessibility workshops, the EFO orientation for online instructors, and a wide range of other workshops on course tools and accessibility.
Training & Resources
All AcTec training is advertised through Titan Today and listed on our website and the Training and Development site. If a topic you ' re interested in isn ' t scheduled at a convenient time, recorded workshops and additional resources are available in the CIT course ' s On-Demand Training & Resources module. Faculty can also request a workshop or consultation outside our regular training schedule— just reach out!

New Training Highlights
We ' re excited to highlight a few of our newest professional development opportunities, designed to strengthen your teaching toolkit:
• Online Course Design & Delivery Plus( OCDD +): Builds on the foundational OCDD workshop required for online teaching, offering a more in-depth, hands-on experience to help faculty apply best practices directly within their own courses.
• Recorded Welcome and Course Walk-Through Videos Using Kaltura: Teaches faculty how to use Kaltura to record welcome videos and course walk-through videos that introduce students to the purpose and structure of their courses, adding a personal touch.
• EFSC ' s Academic Continuity Training for a Campus Closure: Guides faculty in building flexible, resilient teaching practices through asynchronous, self-paced training that equips instructors with strategies to seamlessly pivot to remote delivery when unexpected circumstances arise.
• DesignPLUS Sidebar Basics – Make Your Courses POP!: Introduces faculty to the CidiLabs DesignPLUS Sidebar, a powerful Canvas-integrated design tool. This self-paced, asynchronous training builds practical skills to create visually engaging, well-organized courses.
