athletic ability and his competitive nature. “I started every game from the day I stepped on the field, even the scrimmage from my freshman year to the last game of my senior year.” I asked him how that came about and he said, “When I came to UVA, they had just graduated two defensemen and there was a tryout. Funny enough, the only remaining starting defenseman was a kid from my high school named Mark Coontz and he was now a junior. So my mindset immediately was I am going to be better than that kid, I know him, he’s from my high school and I’m trying to be better than him so I can get the second spot. I was never worried about the third spot, other players could fight over that, I was going to get that second spot, until I can prove that I’m better than Mark and take the first spot.” “That was my mindset, I thought I was the best player at my high school and worked hard to get there and I was going to be the best player at UVA.” And he did just that.

While at UVA Brett won the ACC Championship twice, went to the NCAA College playoff tournament three times, went to the final four twice, won a National Championship, was an All-American twice, not a bad resume for someone who chose UVA lacrosse over Ohio State football. So after you have had that much success in college, what do you do after it ends…….you go play Major League Lacrosse.
