Being raised by a single dad, nutrition was

not always a priority in my household. My

sister’s and I were always well fed but we

lived off of Hennessey’s cheeseburgers,

El Burrito Junior, or grilled cheese and mac

and cheese at home. When I started dating

Jimmy, I don’t think he understood how I

was alive. I’d just completed my degree at

Arizona State University and I’d lived four

years in a desert and I didn’t drink water.

I actually really disliked water and my diet

consisted of burgers, burritos and anything

with carbs. Thankfully I was born was a

great metabolism and I am pretty active

but still looking back now, I can see that I’ve done a complete one eighty in terms of my food choices.

Jimmy has had a very positive influence on me in terms of what I eat. Instead of soda, I now drink lemonade or water. Instead of croissant bacon breakfast sandwiches, I have substituted them for acai bowls or oatmeal. Don’t get me wrong, I still like the occasional slice of pizza or dessert but overall, I’ve made a change in my lifestyle and in what I eat.

Secondly, the word “gym” was not in my vocabulary before I met Jimmy. I’d been an athlete in high school but in college besides the intermural sorority leagues, my exercise became slim to none. Jimmy never suggested that I join the gym but instead bought me some really nice Lulu Lemon workout clothes that I think enticed me to join. I’m proud to say that I’ve been able to get into a routine now of going to the gym around three times per week. He even goes with me to some of my gym classes which make it more fun.

I’ve become happier and healthier thanks to my husband’s healthy lifestyle influence. I have to admit, I’ve rubbed off on him as well. He now wears hats and high SPF sun screen every day because I’ve convinced him that he will age quicker if he doesn’t cover his face. Men can be very vain about aging and their looks.
