Brown Surgical Associates ’ expanding Thoracic Surgery Division specializes in the treatment of cancer and other benign diseases affecting the area of the body between the neck and abdomen , including the lungs , esophagus , mediastinum , chest wall , diaphragm , pleural cavity and trachea .
Our team of skilled thoracic surgeons provides patients with cutting-edge care that is second-to-none and close to home . Patients do not need to travel out of state to access advanced , minimally invasive thoracic procedures or state-of-the-art diagnostic tools . Just this year , our surgeons became the first in Rhode Island to perform biopsies on small lung nodules using the ION robotic-assisted navigational bronchoscopy platform .
Our thoracic surgeons work in conjunction with specialists in medical oncology , radiation oncology , pulmonary medicine , gastroenterology , anesthesiology and radiology . Our patients benefit from this multidisciplinary team approach and receive the most up-to-date treatments in combination with surgery .
