Joseph Salas
My name is Joseph Salas, but my friends call me "Gallo" or "Rooster" in English. Cool nickname I picked up as a kid that followed me into my amateur and professional MMA and Muay Thai fighting career. A name I was given as a kid since I was was the representation of my father and household just like a fighting rooster is to his handler and stable.
My family is very close to me as I am close to it. Second generation Master Arborist by day and Fit Freak, Prize Fighter, Fitness Model, and Actor by night. I was born in the Houston area and raised primarily in Texas (Dallas mainly), but I did spend a few years in Guanajuato, Mexico and a couple years in Orange County, California (Laguna Beach & Huntington beach) where I fight trained and did some acting. I love to travel and have become known as having very nomadic tendencies. Since a kid I was always intrigued by this kind of lifestyle. The TV series Kung-Fu where he wandered around the old West defending the helpless with his martial arts probably had something to do with my martial arts dreams and nomadic life style.. lol. Life imitating art or art imitating life? Who knows, but it keeps me extremely happy.
I've been doing the modeling thing for about 2 years now. As something I happily fell into, it's been a great ride so far. I would have to say fashion shows have been my favorite thing so far. Something about having a crowd present gave me such a natural high that it instantly became favored over other aspects of the industry. It is very similar to the high of "Fight Night" (minus the stress of a man trying to kick my head off).. You can feel the energy in the room and if you know how, you can gather it all and give it back to the crowd while you're on stage. I've seen people have that naturally, but others like myself need some practice. I also will be fighting for the first U.S Caged Muay Thai Middleweight Championship belt on April 1 for Dallas's own XKO promotion at the Gas Monkey Live.
