MICHAEL ST.JOHN
Michael St John began his career as a youngster in Philadelphia, PA on the PAUL WHITEMAN TV TEEN
CLUB show (N/ BC -WFIL) and years later when arriving in Hollywood was signed as the first
Afro-American in the CBS radio script department responsible such shows as The Mayor of the Town
starring Lionel Barrymore & Agnes Moorehead and The Eve Arden Show as well as LUX Radio hosted by C.B.
DeMille. This lead to his being feature in the historical all black musicalfilm CARMEN JONES starring
Dorothy Dandridge and Harry Belafonte. Michael then went on to co-star in the Broadway production of
MEMBER OF THE WEDDING with star Ethel Waters, THE DESK SET with Shirley (Hazel) Booth as well as
FINIAN'S RAINBOW with David Wayne. His writing began during his student days at U.S.C when he was
signed as West Coast Correspondent for TV-RADIO-MOVIE GUIDE magazine.
Later, 20th Century Fox brought him on board in the Public Relations Department. He also became the first
Afro-American DIRECTOR at NBC; he was Editor in Chief at PLAYERS INT'L PUBLICATIONS in Hollywood,
responsible for 3 national publications one of which used his NAME as part of its logo (MICHAEL ST.JOHN 'S
FOXXY PEOPLE). Michael's RADIO years as interviewer and host began at station KDIA in San Francisco. He
commanded his daily reports for over 20 years, no matter where he was in the country (it was syndicated).
He composed symphony FLIGHT OF COLUMBIA 7 and DANCES OF REMEMBRANCE which has received
numerous national and international attention. His memoir HOLLYWOOD THROUGH THE BACK DOOR is
currently being developed as a film or mini-series for CABLE...
