VEG PATCH!
This year, the Vegetable Patch section of the sustainability committee has had an exciting update, with the addition of a group of 5 chickens which are taken care of, and the eggs sold to students or staff members.
"We hope to bring a variety of vegetables which can be used in the school kitchens for a large number of different dishes"
In the Vegetable Patch, we have decided to plant an array of vegetables, from Broad Beans and Peas, to Fennel and Beetroot, which will be ready for harvest in the next year for the school. We hope to bring a variety of vegetables which can be used in the school kitchens for a large number of different dishes, while most importantly reducing the carbon footprint that the school has in association with bringing food into the school.
The chickens have been an exciting new addition to the Vegetable Patch section of the sustainability committee, and have already produced a large number of eggs for students and teachers to enjoy. At the moment, there are a total of 5 hens, with possible plans to bring in more, and even the possible addition of some pigs.
With summer around the corner, we hope that there will be a lot of new fruition from our efforts in the veg patch as we begin to plant the remainder of our seeds, but we have already had outstanding progress from both the Broad Beans and the Peas, both of which have started to shoot and grow quickly with the start of the warm weather.
