By Nicola Reynolds Make sure that the child’s room is quiet and dark. Ensure they choose a comfort to take to bed, such as a favourite teddy. Wake the child at a regular hour each morning so their morning routine is strengthened. Keep a regular bedtime for your child. Keep room temperature to a comfortable level. High temperatures disturb sleep. Surrounding noise should be kept to a minimum. Encourage your child to learn to fall sleep alone in his/her bed, without your presence. Avoid stimulating activity in the hour before bedtime. Avoid drinks of cola, chocolate, i.e caffeine and additives, before bedtime, instead try a warm, milky drink.
