Father's Day By Kathryn Beaney Father’s Day will be celebrated on the 17th June in the UK. You can make these hand prints from Salt Dough for the children to give their Dad, or to make it really special, you could ask the Dads to come in and make their own hand print next to their child’s. Ingredients: 4 Cups of All Purpose Flour 1 Cup of Salt 1 ½ Cups of warm water Method: • • • • • • • • • • Mix the flour and salt well Gradually add in the warm water and keep stirring with a spoon Use your hand to finish mixing and form a dough Knead the dough until it is soft and smooth Roll out to about 1/8 inch thick The child will then need to press their hand into the dough, you can also write their name and the date Put each design on a baking tray and cook in the oven at 165 degrees. It could take an hour or so to cook depending on the thickness They can be taken outside to finish in the sun After it has cooled, the children can paint their own design Once dry they can then be varnished Don’t forget to let the children make the Salt Dough themselves, all of that kneading will be great to help them to strengthen their finger muscles!
