Tactile resources are associated with the sense of touch , and encourage play and exploration . Children can pull , squeeze , stretch and rub them on their hands , feet , arms and across their faces . These resources help to develop recognition of textures and motor skills and offer fun play opportunities .
Exploration of real life items , objects and materials which are relevant to children present the best opportunity for discovery . Children can easily relate to these items which they can find in their natural surroundings , such as at home or in the classroom environment .
Creating tactile resources can be inexpensive . Textures such as soft , smooth , rough , fluffy and bumpy can be explored with fabric , ribbon , household materials such as nail brushes , cleaning cloths and natural resources like pebbles , shells and wooden objects . Many of these are easy to obtain and many may be in your home or setting already !
