Making snakes and other animals using socks filled with sand or other material is a popular nursery activity , but often the TA ends up filling the sock as little hands cannot keep the sock open to spoon the filling in . The children then lose out on valuable learning .

Use a roll of tape to keep the neck of the sock open and give the children something to hold onto as they spoon the filling in . This way they can be involved in every step of their creation !
