Exxpose: What are your upcoming projects? Kevin Hayes: Presently I'm putting together my first solo C.D. project plus traveling with a show band (LuvSexy) as well as being musical director at the House of Blues Kirk Franklin Gospel Brunch on Sundays and my regular gig is at Sing Sing Night Club on Bourbon St.. Exxpose: Who have you worked with in the past? Have you done collaborations or partnerships? Kevin Hayes: I was in the Family Players Band. We had a debut album on M.C.A. records titled "I Love Funk and Roll". I was also the keyboard player on Jean Knight's "Don't Mess With My Toot Toot" album. I also co-wrote a song on Windjammers album titled "Anxiously Waiting", a collaboration with then lead vocalist Carl Dennis. Other artists have included Charmaine Neville and Real Feelings, Cyrille Neville, Guitar Slim Jr., Michael "Soulman" Batiste, Escalade Show Band, Mikala Iverson, LuvSexy, and a host of others. Exxpose: What advise would you wand to give someone who aspired to follow in your footsteps? Kevin Hayes: Work hard, stay focused, strive every day to be better at your craft, and never, ever, give up on your dream. Exxpose: What is the one thing you want everyone to know about you? Kevin Hayes: That I've had my struggles but I'm still here. I'm blessed. Still striving and thankful to be doing what I love and earning a living doing it. I'm still pursuing my dream. Kevin Hayes: they should know that I have a lot of experience on many different levels. I can bring muchto the table and would welcome the opportunity should a corporation want to invest in me, to show them what I'm worth. Exxpose: Do you feel that it is necessary to promote yourself? If, so why? If not, why not? Kevin Hayes: Personally I was not into self promotion but the business has changed so much with the Internet, Web pages, Youtube and social networking in general. Probably 50% of the business is now self promotion. It's a necessary tool for success. Exxpose: Who helped you to get where you are? Who are your agents, publicist, promoters, publishers or managers. Kevin Hayes: Actually I haven't been under any type of professional management since 1983 when the Family Players were under M.C.A. Records. Everything else I've pretty much done on my own. MODEL OR AD Exxpose: For the readers, explain how you title or define yourself in the industry and why? Kevin Hayes: I define myself as a total package musician. I can play all styles of music, sing lead and background vocals, write, arrange, direct or just play what you need me to play depending on what the job calls for. Exxpose: What are some of the other talents you possess? Kevin Hayes: I would have to say all my talents are primarily music related but I do have a very good memory specially where numbers are concerned. Exxpose: Why Music Now? Kevin Hayes: Now....because I still have the passion and the love that I had for music when I first started. Exxpose: What your instruments do you play?
