Is there a difference between Live Musicians and Studio Recording Musicians According to exuberantly excited professional and polished engineers…Musicians who play and perform Live Music are usually not great at recording in the a studio setting. Live musicians tend to run on and off the music scale when comes to playing in a studio because they are so use to playing in a concert atmosphere where mistakes are recognized and critiqued. Where as in a studio recording session, when live musicians ramble on to the beat of the drum or sing out of pitch...they find themselves exhausting a vast majority of their time correcting, and re-recording notes or vocals. This is often time very frustrating to both the musician and engineer. Some may say that this is the reason that most live musicians do not possess cd projects or their projects take years to finalize. Besides, when a musician gigs a lot—they rarely have time to sleep, not to mention running back and forth to the studio. But my advice is this, “you’ve got to put in work—if you plan to have a successful outcome...got to!” On the other hand Studio Recording Musicians….they tend to be very squared or in-the-box musicians. This means that they tend to be almost perfect with every key they play or sing. Studio Recording Musicians find it easier to record on a one-take basis because they spend a lot of time either recording in a studio settings and paying close attention to every single note or key. This gives them an ear for perfection. Studio Recording Musicians are usually great at producing cd and album projects. Often times studio engineers recommend when an artist is recording a live music project with a band that a Studio Recording Musician is hired in order to expand heightened success of the music project. Consider it—it may determine the outcome of your upcoming live music project! Gospel and R&B...is there a Difference? Yes and no. There are as in most circumstances...two sides to every story. In a matter where Gospel and R&B are compared. Take for example, Yolanda Adams—how she continually presents music that is a crossover between Gospel and secular music. Why is it that Yolanda Adams’ music is played nationwide on both gospel and secular radio stations? It is simply because, appreciators of secular music happen to also be appreciators of gospel music. People go to the family bar-b-que and listen to the O’Jays, but oh, boy...on Sunday morning—they’re often tuned into the gospel sounds hitting the air waves. Everyone can in one way or another, relate to both sides of the spectrum. R&B music is soulful. And what do they say when you in church “the word of the say may set your souls on fire” with great content and the word of the almighty. More often than not, R&B music can be related to gospel and religious belief in comparison to the love of a mate versus the love of the almighty. On that note—pay attention. Get involved with the actual lyrics and see for yourself...Is there really a difference? Why New Orleans Musicians Gig More Often? Now more than ever before, we find that New Orleans Musicians are gigging. Take for example, in the historic French Quarters on Frenchman Street...there are so many musicians, acts and talents. You will undoubtedly find musicians gigging every single night at almost every single spot. It doesn’t matter the day of the week or time of day or genre of music—club owners, restaurants, hotels and venues are inviting musicians to part take in the New Orleans tourism industry experience. What I find to be awesome is that local New Orleans clubs, venues, restaurants and hotel are extending a hand and an outlet for musicians to establish a plat form and build a fan base. In addition, the opportunity to earn money gigging, including cd promotion and sales. And believe me, there are boat loads of real talent in the French Quarters. It is inevitable that music is in demand and live musicians as well. Take a walk down Frenchman and Bourbon Street this week and make a night of it.
