In this era, the owners of businesses, big and small, will do whatever they can to get to the top. For example, many businesses don’t treat their workers the humane way they should be treated. Many workers have long hours for very little pay. However, this isn’t the worst thing that is happening regarding businesses. Some business owners employ young children, often immigrants, for even lower pays than their adult counterparts. This is because of their small hands that enable them to work machines easier.
Even though these businesses use these cheap tactics to pull out on top, they are not going unnoticed. Some workers decide to join labor unions to protest for better pay, safer conditions, and shorter hours. Labor unions are groups of people who join together to protest businesses for better working rights.
Another tactic that is used to crack down on unfair working rights is a thing called photo journalism. Photo journalism is when people take photos of something and publish them in newspapers. Many photo journalist focus on child labor as their main aspect of their job. The people who take the pictures most likely aren’t granted access to factories, so they must go undercover as inspectors or other various characters.
As many people might be completely fine with these conditions in factories, I think they are completely inhumane and just morally wrong. Hopefully, with enough protesting and enough people standing up to businesses owners, these ways will be demolished and we have to worry about having our children working in factories by the age of ten. We won’t have to worry about fatigue from the long hours, and we would have safe work conditions to set our mind at ease.
